Course Description

Use computer programs to identify , evaluate and treat cognitive deficits and decline in brain injured and non-brain injured adults.  This course will explore assessment and treatment options for clinicians working with patients with memory loss and cognitive decline.  Various assessment instruments will be explored including the Mini Mental Status Examination, SLUMS, RCAMCOG, ADAS-Cog, and the Short Blessed Test. Treatment approaches will  be explored  using  technology and various programs developed for computers. Documentation of cognitive related goals, treatment plans, and response to treatment will also be covered. 

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the incident and impact of cognitive decline in the community and residential facilities
  • Identify evaluation and assessment tools available to identify and quantify cognitive change.
  • Review differentiation between progressive cognitive changes and institutional delirium
  • Explore treatment techniques, and program development related to individuals with diminished cognitive functioning.
