Course Description
In this half day, hands on lab course, you will learn to more readily identify those patients with core instability. You will be able to incorporate a Pilates based method of therapeutic exercise into your patient’s program that will produce improved functional outcomes and goal achievement. Participants will learn the basics of the Pilates Method as well as modifications for different levels of patient populations. This seminar is primarily a lab course and was developed to provide healthcare and fitness professionals with the ability to use the Pilates Method as another functional tool for the treatment of patients.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the principles and concepts behind the Pilates Method of corrective exercise.
- Assess appropriateness of patients/residents for treatment with Pilates as a therapeutic exercise including indications, contraindications and precautions.
- Apply Pilates to improve patient core and spinal stabilization, posture, and static /dynamic movement patterns.
- Integrate Pilates exercises into patient treatment, plan of care for improved functional outcomes and appropriate documentation.
Please wear comfortable clothing & bring a mat (or blanket) and if you have them, a Swiss ball and 5-6’ piece of thera-band to class for lab
