Marcia Finlayson, PhD, OT (C), OTR/L
is an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Finlayson teaches critical appraisal, evidence-based practice, and research methods to both entry-level and post-professional occupational therapy students. Dr. Finlayson maintains an active research program, and participates at multiple levels in the development and evaluation of community-based service delivery programs that enhance the quality of life of people affected by disability
 Coralie Glantz OT/L, BCG, FAOTA & Nancy Richman OTR/L, FAOTA
are co-owners of Glantz/Richman Rehabilitation Associates, which services Long Term Care facilities, home health and hospitals with OT, PT, SLP, Social Services and Therapeutic Recreation staff. Glantz and Richman have presented at National and State conferences, legislative meetings, universities and contributed to State and National policy/regulations in the health care field. They have published 50 + manuals and contributed to texts on a variety of health care issues to benefit the geriatric population. Consulting and developing innovative programming and staff training in long term care facilities has been a career long contribution.
Denise Grossman OTR/L
Ms. Grossman has been working in the field for 16 years.She is a Registered Yoga Instructor, currently completing a 500 level certification in Yoga Therapy focusing on working with cancer patients and the chronically ill. Ms. Grossman is also a Reiki Master practitioner and a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapiststhe Yoga Alliance (which supports yoga teachers and the diversity and integrity of yoga).
Anne Hegberg M.S. OTR/L, CDRS (Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist) and Certified Driving Instructor
For the past 19 years Ms. Hegberg has been with the driver rehabilitation program at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, IL.This highly respected program is the largest in Illinois addressing all aspects of driver rehabilitation including low vision, teen drivers and van.Anneinvolved with theMedical Association project of educatingwith thePhysician's Guide to Assessing and Counseling Older Drivers.Anne has presented nationally and internationally regarding disabilities and driving.
Yakub I. Patel, B. Physio, B.S., M.S.B.A., D.P.T.
is the owner and CEO of Yousuf Enterprises, Inc. and a highly experienced clinician with over 30 years in the field and a member of American Physical Therapy Association since 1979. He holds an undergraduate and a graduate degree in Business Administration and a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in clinical research. He has worked in hospitals and out-patient centers as well as in private physicians’ offices. Over the years he has developed unique ways to thoroughly investigate available research to support diagnostic tests and therapeutic approaches. Mr. Patel has been an ardent advocate of evidence-based practice.
Virginia Poynton OTR/L, M.H.P.E.
In addition to her O.T. degree Ms. Poynton has earned a masters in Health Professions Education from UIC. She is a certified Kripalu (Yoga Teacher) and a member of International Association of Yoga Therapy. She has practiced Yoga for15 years and has been teaching for 7 years. She sustains a private practice in Yoga instruction and Reiki Therapy teaching at Full Bloomed Lotus Studio in Wilmette, Il.
Mary Lou Savino B.S., A.A.S., PTA, NSCA-CPT
is a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant, a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a Certified Pilates Instructor through PowerHouse Pilates. She has been practicing Physical Therapy since 1992 and has experience in both inpatient and outpatient orthopedic, neurological, and aquatic therapy. She has worked extensively in the outpatient clinical setting as well as in acute care, rehabilitation, long term care and home health. Ms. Savino has successfully incorporated Pilates into her physical therapy and personal training exercise programs and emphasizes practical and functional approaches for participants in the clinical setting.
Carole Schwartz OTR/L Masters in Gerontology (in process)
has 10 years of clinical experience in a variety of treatment settings, in addition to teaching community education programs. She is currently Coordinator of Program Development for Glantz Richman Rehab. Assoc. providing Consulting and Seminars in Dementia and Restorative Nursing programming. Currently working on a Masters in Gerontology adds a wealth of current research and knowledge in her work. Ms. Schwartz recently joined a UIC research team in a Falls Prevention program for people with Multiple Sclerosis as an interventionist.
Michele C. Simler M.S. CCC-SLP
is a Supervisor of Speech Pathology at Loyola University Medical Center in the Chicagoland area. She has over 15 years experience as a Speech Language Pathologist in Acute Care, Rehabilitation, and Outpatient settings. Areas of specialty include Head and Neck Cancer, Dysphagia, Traumatic Brain Injury. She has been a guest instructor for the International Association of Laryngectomees and is an Adjunct Faculty Member at Elmhurst College.
Elizabeth Walker Peterson, MPH, OTR/L, FAOTA
Elizabeth Walker Peterson is a Clinical Associate at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Department of Occupational Therapy the American Occupational Therapy Association representative to the NCOA Falls Free Coalition. Ms. Peterson has worked at UIC since 1993 where she serves as primary instructor for several lecture and lab-based courses within the entry-level masters curriculum. Her research interests are focused on falls and fear of falling among community-dwelling older adults with emphasis on epidemiology, measurement, and interventions for frail and well elderly. She is currently a doctoral student at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm., Sweden.
