Course Description
The presenters will discuss age related changes that effect an older person’s ability to be safe and independent in their environment. We will address how these age-related changes influence how older persons perceive and interact with their environment, what the environment in which they are living is like, ways this environment can be modified to adapt for age-related changes, and how to begin providing these seniors with customized solutions for their potential problems.
This presentation will demonstrate adaptations for sensory problems that occur with:
- Vision
- Taste/Smell
- Tactile/temperature
- Auditory
- Vestibular
It will also include adaptations for physical problems that occur with:
- Stability
- Sitting and Rising
- Mobility
- Bending and Reaching
- Climbing Stairs
- Grasp and Pinch
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this presentation the participants will:

Understand some of the issues involved when an elder adult chooses to maintain their independence in the community.
- Identify ways the environment can be modified to adapt for these age related changes.
