Course Description

Participants will gain an understanding of identifying wheelchair and seating needs, evaluation methods, and interventions to increase function and maintain skin integrity for individuals using a wheelchair. The content will be pertinent to individuals who work in a variety of settings.

Learning Objectives

• Review the need for optimal positioning of patients in various settings
• Explore the impact improper positioning can have on patient’s function and care burden
• Identify triggers that would prompt a Wheelchair and Seating Screening
• Explore evaluation methods used in wheelchair and seating
• Discuss specific wheelchair and seating needs by setting, and by diagnostic category
• Review mechanical and therapeutic interventions that can be used to optimize positioning
